How must the label be reproduced?

The label must only be displayed in accordance with trademark protection or as agreed in the appendix of the label usage contract. (see here)

For this purpose, it is provided by us electronically. If embedded in another background, a white frame of sufficient size is required.

The label may only be displayed exclusively, completely and in a traceable manner on the basis of the .eps or .png files provided.
(see here)

The size may only be changed in proportion and must remain legible up to font size 6. Colour deviations must be approved by Hohenstein.

What can be certified?

Any material intended for use in UV protection clothing can be certified. Depending on the test specification used, it is essential that the design of the product is taken into account. Compare DIN EN 13758-2 and AS/NZS 4399, Chapter 4 Body Coverings. There is no product test.

Only materials are used for the determination of the UV protection factor. Only such materials, at which no two-dimensional hole larger than 1 mm² exist in new state, are accepted for certification.

Good protection is provided by suitable material but also by a sensible product design. Typically exposed parts of the body should be covered. Products that only protect an extremely small area of the body from UV rays are not certified. This excludes products which have a note stating that the UV protection is intended exclusively for a defined part of the body.

When can the label be attached?

The label may only be attached following a successful test and after signing of a valid label usage contract.

The test must be passed successfully, an application made and the accompanying declaration of conformity provided. The results must not be used for advertising purposes without this labelling and valid certificate. Mentioning the test basis UV STANDARD 801 and the UPF achieved within the context of CE labelling, CE declaration and manufacturer information is not affected by this.

What sample size must be provided?

Homogenous and representative samples without seams, inserts or other interruptions are required with at least 15 cm distance to the selvedge. These must be 50 cm x 50 cm per material and colour. Depending on the product, 5 ready-made samples of the largest size can also be provided.

Can the UPF be omitted from the label?

The label is a protected trade mark and is only available with UPF.

What other flexible solutions are there for certification?

A Hohenstein quality label can be created for many products in a group. To do so, provide us with your samples/products.

It is possible to receive additional certificates for the same product group that has achieved different UPFs in the test. Certificate extensions are possible during the duration. A general certificate can also be created.

We are happy to advise you about these options, please provide us with your products/samples.

Is the label number available early?

Yes, as soon as the products/product group has been defined as a cluster and a corresponding label usage contract is present. Use of the label is only possible when the test has been passed successfully or the certification has been registered with validity data - whichever is later. The label print template is valid for each UPF, test basis and contract conclusion, differentiated according to product or product groups.

No. All required tests must be completed. This provides assurance for the market to avoid products being incorrectly labelled. This also applies in the case of an extension or expansion of a certificate as well as an additional certificate. The label may only be used when the test has been passed for the certification of submitted samples.

How long is the label valid for?

On conclusion of the contract and completion of the tests, the label is continued automatically each year without change provided that there is no termination by the contract partners and/or the product(s) has/have not been changed. For the purposes of continuation, a control test is carried out after 1 year at the expense of the label owner. New products from the group can be included or existing products omitted.

If there is valid certification, the label may be used for 1 year. The certificate and thus the label can be extended after application and test. providing that the product has not been changed and the UPF is confirmed in the short test. Products made of the same material can be included on the certificate or existing products omitted. Unless agreed otherwise, the costs for the extension and test are paid by the applicant.

You are reminded about the extension by Hohenstein around 2 months before expiration of the validity.

In which languages is the certificate/label/hang tag available?

    Only in German and English.

The certificate is available in German and English. The label is language-neutral. The hang tag is issued in German, English, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and Danish.

What is the link to the requirements of EU directive 2016/425 on personal protective clothing?

DIN EN 13758-1 and AS/NZS 4399 are both recognised test specifications within the framework of regulation (EU) 2016/425 on personal protective clothing. The requirements from regulation (EU) 2016/425 on personal protective, Annex II, point 1.1.2.2 Protection Class according to Risk Level, are not met. Restrictions on the usage condition of clothing are essential in the manufacturer information based on the product type and its function. We would be pleased to advise you on this.

The Hohenstein-accredited test basis UV STANDARD 801 is recognised throughout Europe. No restrictions are required to be included in the manufacturer information. Additional useful information for the consumer can be provided. With a UPF ≥ 10, the requirements of the regulation (EU) 2016/425 on personal protective clothing are met according to the current status of technology. We would be pleased to advise you on this.
